Artistic Director
Joseph Barker
Joseph grew up in St Austell and moved away to Chetham's School in Manchester when he was 16. He is now studying with Louise Hopkins at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama and has participated in festivals such as the Dante Festival and Golowan Festival. He was a member of the Efander Ensemble for 3 years and now plays in the Nova Ensemble alongside Jake, Elena, and Angus Webster.
Viola
Jake Montgomery - Smith
Jake grew up in St Austell and began playing violin aged 7. He switched to viola aged 15 to play in the Efander ensemble, in which Joseph was also playing. He is now studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Matthew Jones and has participated in chamber music classes with the Endellion Quartet and performed in groups at Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
Violin
Leon Human
Leon started playing the violin aged 7. At 16 he began studying at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, and he now studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Stephanie Gonley. He was leader of LSSO for two years, and made his solo debut with them in the Barbican Centre in 2021. His recent highlights include playing and recording with the Britten Sinfonia at Snape Maltings in Aldeburgh.
Violin
Elena Toledo
Elena began playing the violin at 8 years old, and moved to Manchester at 16 to study at Chetham's School of Music. She now studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Caroline Pether. She has participated in masterclasses with Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Tamsin Waley - Cohen, and played in the Dante Festival with Krysia Osostowicz. This summer she looks forward to playing in the Dorset Opera Festival and playing in the Halle Orchestra.
Cello
Felix Rosenboom
Felix is a cellist currently studying at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg with Clemens Hagen. Prior to this he studied at the Guildhall School Junior Department with Selma Gokcen and Marina Logie. He has participated in masterclasses with Danjulo Ishizaka, Daniel Müller-Schott, and Leonid Gorokov. He was twice awarded 1st prize in the North London Strings Competition, and recently won first prizes in both the Anton Rubinstein International Cello Competition, and the Concorso Mainardi cello competition at the Mozarteum.
Viola
Jamie Howe
Jamie Howe is currently studying viola under Jon Thorne and violin under Philippe Honoré at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Before that, he attended the 6th form at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. He is a former member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, with whom he performed at London’s Barbican Centre and the BBC Proms. A particular recent highlight was the opportunity to perform alongside the Manchester Camerata as part of its series of Mozart piano concerti with soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet under the direction of Gabor Takács-Nagy.
